 Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia (or ‘Manorexia’ as it is dubbed by the press for males) is an illness in which the person continually diets and starves themselves. They may feel frightened of putting on weight and act this out by restricting food and or drink intake. They may also binge at times, vomit, use laxatives or exercise excessively in order to control their weight.

Many people with Anorexia feel that they do not deserve to occupy space or wear nice clothes. The more weight they lose, the less of them there is to hate. When others condemn their behaviour and decreased size the sufferer feels that they need to take control. However control is something that they do not have.

Someone who is anorexic is in a desperate bid to hang onto control and hope with life. It is not a suicide bid, as some people around them may presume. Although in some instances where side-effects are so bad, the Anorexia sufferer’s illness if it has been has been going on for a long period of timeit may be life threatening.
